Activities in Bergen op Zoom

The question may be: what can't you do in North Brabant? For anyone who travels to our beautiful province, the options are endless. Soak up culture or nature, an active and adventurous holiday, day trips, indoor activities and more. But then it is of course nice to know what is really worth it, and we are happy to help! We have compiled a list of our favorite activities. Curious? Read on quickly!

The Binnenschelde

The Binnenschelde is a recreational lake that borders the residential area of the Bergse Plaat, where it is possible to swim, canoe and windsurf. A beach zone has been constructed with various facilities and there are jetties. It is also a valued spot with kite surfers. A walking/cycling route of approximately 7 km runs around the Binnenschelde.

The Markiezenhof

The Markiezenhof is one of the most beautiful city palaces in Western Europe. Built in the late 15th century by the famous Mechelen architects Anthonie and Rombout Keldermans, this was the residential palace of the lords and marquises of Bergen op Zoom.

Today Het Markiezenhof is a museum and houses the regional archive. The focus of the museum and archive is on the history of the city and region and the history of the fair.

There is always something going on in Het Markiezenhof. The halls are used intensively for lectures, concerts, performances, films. Moreover, it is 'the place to be' when it comes to parties & weddings and congresses & business meetings.

Due to COVID-19 opening hours may be adjusted. Please consult the website for more information.

Fort de Roovere

Fort de Roovere in Halsteren is increasingly developing into the centre of the West Brabant Waterline. This is not least due to the Moses Bridge, the edge of which is at the same height as the water in the moat. You can wade through it, just as Moses did through the Red Sea. In addition to this remarkable access bridge, Pompejus towers high above the fort. From this gigantic watchtower you can see the entire West Brabant Waterline.

At the same time, it is an open-air theatre and exhibition space. Pompejus was created with the combined efforts of residents, organisations and the municipality of Bergen op Zoom. Work was also done on the realisation of a postern (tunnel), which takes you back in time, as it were. Fort de Roovere is also ideally suited for a wide range of cultural and sporting events.

Beautiful walking routes have been set out along the earthen walls and canals. Follow the yellow route for a walk of approximately 2 km. or the purple route for a walk of approximately 5 km.

Climbing forest Brabantse Wal

Are you ready for action in nature? In climbing forest Brabantse Wal there is enough challenge! In 2020 we won the bronze award for ANWB 'Best day out in North Brabant'. The climbing forest is now even bigger with a free fall, bungee and a new junior route. A zip line route, difficult transitions and large nets. It's all there. Choose your own climbing route and decide how high you want to go.

Experience it yourself!
